Jameson Original is one of the most recognizable Irish whiskeys. It is produced in Ireland at Midleton Distillery in County Cork and has an alcohol content of 40%.

Jameson is made from a combination of grain whiskey and traditional Irish pot still whiskey. The spirits undergo triple distillation, which is what gives the whiskey its fairly smooth and gentle character without unnecessary harshness.

The flavor begins with a light sweetness, followed by spicy and nutty notes. A little later, a woody note becomes noticeable. Jameson does not lean toward heavy smokiness or strong astringency, which makes it easy to drink even for those who do not enjoy an overly rugged whiskey character.

The aroma is also fairly gentle: a little grain, subtle floral notes, and wood. It does not hit the nose with alcohol and opens gradually, especially if the whiskey is allowed to rest in the glass for a while.

Jameson is aged in oak casks for at least four years. These include casks previously used for bourbon and sherry. They add light sweetness, dried-fruit notes, and make the flavor rounder.

There are no strict rules for drinking Jameson. Neat, it remains fairly smooth; ice makes the flavor even gentler, while ginger ale and lime add freshness. It also works well with cola, especially if you want a simple cocktail without complicated ingredients.

The history of Jameson began in 1780, when John Jameson opened a distillery on Bow Street in Dublin. Today, production takes place in Midleton, but the brand’s style remains the same: smooth Irish whiskey that is easy to drink and does not take long to get used to.
