Jameson Original is a blended Irish whiskey with an alcohol content of 40%, produced at Midleton Distillery in County Cork. It is one of the most recognizable Irish whiskeys, and its main strength is its smooth, balanced taste without unnecessary heaviness.

Jameson is made from a combination of grain whiskey and traditional Irish pot still whiskey. The spirits then undergo triple distillation. This is what helps give the whiskey a calmer, smoother character without a harsh alcoholic bite.

The taste begins with a light sweetness, followed by nutty and spicy notes. A little later, a woody nuance and a subtle influence from sherry casks become noticeable. Together, these create a fairly simple and approachable profile that does not take long to get used to.

The aroma is also gentle and pleasant. Grain, floral, and woody notes can be detected, along with a light sweetness. It opens gradually without overwhelming the senses with sharp aromas.

Jameson is aged in oak casks for at least four years. Bourbon and sherry casks are among those used for maturation. They add smoothness, light sweetness, dried fruit, and woody notes to the whiskey.

Jameson can be enjoyed however you prefer. Neat, it remains smooth and balanced; ice makes the flavor even softer, while ginger ale and lime add freshness. It also works well with cola, especially if you want a simple cocktail without complicated ingredients.

The history of Jameson began in 1780, when John Jameson opened a distillery on Bow Street in Dublin. Today, production takes place in Midleton, but the style of the whiskey remains the same: an Irish whiskey that is easy to drink and easy to recognize.
