Jägermeister is a German herbal liqueur with an alcohol content of 35%, produced in the town of Wolfenbüttel. Its recipe was created in the 1930s and remains a closely guarded secret to this day.

It is known that Jägermeister is made with 56 ingredients: various herbs, roots, flowers, spices, and fruits from around the world. Their combination creates the distinctive flavor that makes the drink easy to recognize even in a blind tasting.

Jägermeister is sweet, spicy, and bitter at the same time. It is difficult to single out one dominant note — herbs and spices follow one another, while a touch of sweetness softens the bitterness and makes the flavor feel more balanced.

The aroma is rich and herbal, with spicy, citrus, and slightly sweet notes. It is especially vivid as soon as the chilled liqueur is poured into the glass.

Before bottling, the Jägermeister base matures in oak barrels for around a year. The drink is then adjusted to its final flavor and strength and bottled in its famous green bottles.

The most recognizable way to serve Jägermeister is well chilled in small shot glasses. The producer recommends a temperature of around −18 °C, so the bottle can easily be kept in the freezer. At such a low temperature, the liqueur becomes thicker and its flavor feels more concentrated.

Jägermeister is also used in cocktails and mixed with other drinks, but an ice-cold shot remains the classic serve. There is no need for complicated recipes or a dozen ingredients — just chill the bottle well.
